The Opportunity:
As a Senior Data Analyst, you will sit at the intersection of data engineering, product, and commercial teams, transforming complex maritime data into actionable insights for internal stakeholders and customers. You will work extensively with large-scale vessel, geospatial, and time-series datasets within AWS-based analytics environments.
Responsibilities:
Analyze and interpret large maritime datasets (vessel movement, position, compliance, risk, geospatial, time-series)
Build, maintain, and optimize dashboards and reporting solutions for internal and customer-facing use
Develop analytical workflows using Python, SQL, and Spark within notebook-based environments
Partner with Data Engineers to define data models and analytics-ready datasets that support reliable analytics and reporting
Work closely with Product Managers and commercial teams to translate business questions into clear, measurable analytics outputs
Monitor and validate data quality, accuracy, and timeliness; investigate anomalies and drive resolution with engineering teams
Support ad-hoc and exploratory analysis to inform product and operational decisions
Accountable for Data “source of truth”: define canonical metrics and rules, implement validation/monitoring, and align stakeholders on definitions, exceptions, and change impact.
Required Skills & Experience:
7+ years’ experience in a data/analytics role
Maritime technology experience and familiarity with maritime data concepts (AIS, vessel tracking, ports, sanctions, risk, compliance)
Strong Python for data analysis (pandas and notebook-based workflows)
Advanced SQL (complex joins, window functions, performance tuning)
Hands-on experience with Apache Spark for large-scale processing
BI & visualization: Amazon QuickSight and/or Tableau
Experience working with AWS environments/tools (S3, Athena, RDS, EMR or similar)
Experience working with large-scale time-series and/or geospatial datasets
Strong data governance and analytics best practices: metric/definition management, data quality controls (accuracy, completeness, timeliness), documentation, reproducibility, lineage awareness, and appropriate access/usage controls
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, able to work with technical and non-technical audiences
Additional Skills:
Geospatial analytics tooling (PostGIS/H3/GeoParquet/QGIS)
Experience with Meteorological and Oceanographic data
Education/Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering) or equivalent practical experience
Relevant certifications are a plus (e.g., AWS Analytics, Tableau/QuickSight, Spark/Databricks, GIS)
